First off, I am trying to make a section view in Cadworx, is the View Box the way to go?
AND
I am unable to generate the view from the view box, I can make the "frame" for the box where I want to make my cut but I am unable to generate the view for the view box.

I found a webinar on the CadWorx site about viewboxes but can't watch that video. (or any of the older webinars because of Codec problems)

When you create a view box, it is creating named views in AutoCAD. To see the view in a viewport, double-click in the viewport to make it active, and switch to the named view created. To get the codec for the videos, try email jdixon@intergraph.com. He may be able to locate that for you.

You can also use sheet sets to quickly create viewports in ortho drawings based on the named views created with the viewbox (it will even add the required XREFs), but that doesn't work well with "busy" views. I'm not sure if it's to do with annotation scales or just the number of XREFs to manage, but it locks up AutoCAD surprisingly easy.

Viewbox clipping only works in 2D wireframe, for some reason when changing to realistic, the clipping planes are ignored.

I find the viewbox doesn't quite always work they way I want it too so at times I still use the old .lsp routines for clipping in plane and section.

I can't believe I forgot to mention this...viewbox works well for most views. However, there are times when it just won't do the trick, like for angled or skewed views.

If it isn't working, use the 3DCLIP command, this lets you set your front and back clipping planes visually. Also, 3DCLIP respects the view you are currently using. To get a orthogonal shot of angled piping, set your ucs so that it is in the plane that you want your view to be (usually by using ucs object), and the use the PLAN command to align your view to the ucs.

See the image below.

+1 with Wolfe. Viewbox is a treat provided your model is aligned orthogonally.

For real world views where you need an elevation of a plant that is rotated 37.42° to the north, I use the 3 point UCS to align the coordinate system with +Z pointing in my view direction, ie looking down on +Z axis (does that make sense?)

Then use the PLAN command with current UCS, and do a 3DCLIP on what I need. The saving the views and finally applying to a viewport.

Does anyone knows why my DISPSILH settings keep re-setting back to zero after 3D clipping a section view using Cadworx plant 2015.
current settings are DISPSILH=1, ISOLINES=0
